RNH MAG: Who inspired you to pursue a music career?
Z: I grew up listening to Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, and 80s R&B/Pop. Then one day, I unexpectedly walked into LL Cool J’s video shoot at the 165th street Bus Terminal– by the Colosseum Mall– and I saw LL with his arms around two female models. That up close and personal view, much closer than what I got from Yo’ MTV Raps– left such an everlasting impression that I took a special liking to the emceeing aspect of Hip-Hop. But what really solidified the art form in my heart was when I saw Boogie Down Productions’ ‘My Philosophy‘ music video. Immediately, Kris’ word play, his philosophy, and raps about Africa hit home, and I began began writing his own lyrics. Later, I became influenced by Nas, Tupac, and Jay-Z.
On July 31, 2016, Zangba Thomson received the ‘Bai T. Moore Literary Award’ during a festive ceremony held at the National Black Theatre in Harlem, New York—which commemorated the 169th Anniversary of the Republic of Liberia’s Independence. The red-carpeted event was organized by the Liberian Community Association of New York City, Inc. (LCANYC), in collaboration with the Union of Liberian Associations in the Americas (ULAA).

Standout contributions come by way of popular R&B crooner Maskerade, for his soulful choruses and powerful productions; and Scarecrow Beats, who spirited the second half of the album with his warmhearted beats.
